Yep, we're off to Missouri for the weekend to see this girl get hitched!

But tomorrow she'll be wearing a much prettier dress! Congrats to Katie and Cody!

Certificate of Excellence

In elementary school we got certificates for everything. If you passed pre-school, you got a certificate. If you washed your hands after going to the bathroom, you probably got a certificate. If you could add, you probably got a certificate.

When I think about it, its been several years since I've received a 'Certificate of Excellence' in anything. The closest thing I've received would be a dorm award freshman year of college when I received Virute's 'Most Likely to Grow Up, Get Married, only Realize She Was Actually Related to the Guy" award, in effort to make fun of the tiny town I grew up in. (Thankfully I married cross-continentally and there's a very slim chance that award could ever be true).

Well the other night, I received the certificate you see above on my windshield. I had been at a bible study at an apartment complex for about two hours. I didn't grab it off my windshield until I was a block away, and...

Are you ready to see what I was awarded? Excited?

Yep. I'm so honored.

Honestly, it was a big let down. I thought surely it was a nice note to be written on, of all things, a 'Certificate of Excellence'.

And not that it matters, but I know for a fact it was my first time to ever park there, I've got a sharp memory for things like this.

Who has spare, blank, certificates just layin' around anyways?

34 oz. of coffee and counting

I walked upstairs from our basement to find a massive pot of coffee brewing this afternoon.
He made not 3, or 6, or 9 cups of coffee but 12! And all I could say is "What are you going to do with all that coffee?"
He just smiled and tried to explain to me how it was more efficient to brew a whole bunch and then reheat it cup by cup when we want some more.
I was sincerely doubting him at this point, and then he brought my grandpa Clarence into the equation, saying that this is what Clarence would do. (And he's right).
So, what is he going to do with all that coffee? Well...
He has been making all sorts of fancy coffee drinks at his new barista job, but it looks like he's gone for a massive 34 oz. iced coffee. I can tell he doesn't like it by the face makes after each sip. It probably has something do with the many ice cubes he put in piping hot coffee, but hey...it's more efficient!

Oh he makes me laugh:)

Pig Cake

So there are two things that I've cooked (so far) that Jonny has loved. Once I made a roast dinner with brown gravy that made him make lots of noises at the dinner table...he even said "you have satisfied your man." (It was pretty hilarious to witness). I haven't been able to get the same response for anything else. However, he does love...Pig Cake. It's pretty yummy and I made it tonight to visit a friend and professor of Jonny's. It's also amazingly simple. Check out the recipe HERE, and if you decide to make it please enjoy it as much as we did!
Yea, so, I might have tried to start a food fight with the left over batter...
But he wasn't up for it so I just had to lick it clean. YUM.
The finished product. Pictures taken from good ol' photobooth, always there when ya need it.

Two Months of Marriage

Whoa. We've been married 2 months already, time is flying.

We are settling back into life in Louisville, Jonny has picked up several shifts at the Seminary's cafe and I'm still looking for a job.
In the meantime, we've made a quaint little home for ourselves here in this basement (pictures soon)! Yesterday, I ironed a bedskirt (also known as a dust ruffle, I know this because I've bought 2 (and returned 1) in the past 3 days). If ironing a bedskirt doesn't make me sound like a very married woman, I don't know what does.

Everyone keeps asking me how marriage is going, and seem surprised when I tell them that I'm absolutely loving it! I mean, why wouldn't I? Jonny and I are two sinners, saved by grace and brought back to God by his loving kindness, through the righteousness of Christ. So anytime we annoy each other, which does happen, we can forgive one another knowing we've been pardoned by God on account of Christ's work on the cross. We are learning more about each other everyday, growing (by God's grace) in patience and understanding.
*Like when I spent nearly an hour picking out that bedskirt (only to return it the next day) and Jonny just smiled and let me take my time.

Thank you Jonny for being crazy enough to marry me.
One of our very first pictures together, two years ago next month. Thankfully, that beard is gone.

weekend recap

This weekend we hosted our first guests as a married couple in our home (okay, it's a basement) but it's our home! Sam, Tiffany, and Kimmy drove 8 hours from southwest Missouri to visit us and explore Louisville (I'm pretty sure they fell in love and Tiffany is ready to move here).

Anyways, we gave them a pretty good tour of the city including the scenic Ohio river, Louisville Slugger museum and factory, Col. Sander's grave, Lynn's Paradise Cafe, and it wouldn't be a complete trip to Louisville without stopping by Graetor's (which they did, twice).

Thanks for coming girls, you're welcome back anytime. And Sam, Jonny forgives you for ordering him around with your camera!

Meacham Both Hands Project

Happy Thursday! Just passing along a video of some of our friends from Immanuel Baptist Church here in Louisville, as they worked last Saturday at the home of a widow while at the same time raised funds for the Meacham's adoption of two sweet children from the Congo. Would you consider helping the Meacham's? You can out more about their adoption journey here

some summer.

It's time we share a glimpse of our summer. It's been a whirlwind: we were married, went to Crete on our 2 week honeymoon, then to N. Ireland for some quality time with Jonny's family. We left N. Ireland two weeks ago and headed to Missouri where we spent a week with my family, just in time for the 4th of July. Here's a photo recap.
A farewell lunch with Jonny's parents in Belfast, picture perfect!
LOTS of time in airports/airplanes on the way back to America
wedding presents waiting for us in Missouri
the CUTEST two girls waited patiently for us to get back so we could take them to the pool, Miranda braved the waterslide 4 times, what a trooper!

shaded from the sun for lunch... two years between them and they're practically the same size!
taking a break in the baby pool
a few days later we headed to the lake...
and let the wind blow through our hair on several boat rides and jet ski adventures
then we raced each other in go-karts
and we watched an extravagant fireworks display on the lakeside
For the actual 4th, we let the youngsters handle the firecrackers
"we shoot em' outta coke bottle round here."
Miranda's first bite out of her hot dog...the wrong way as evidenced by the ketchup on her face
Emma looks like she's up to something.
she demolished 2 cobs of corn on Jonny's lap. (she has captured his heart)
And it wouldn't be 4th of July without watermelon

Now we're back in Louisville, getting settled and figuring out the ends & outs of married life. It's been a great start, we're both loving it and looking forward to all that is in store.
